About Our Greenhouses:
The solar venting feature of the Simply Solar Greenhouse is only a part of the ventilation engineering. The front door has a large window. There is another sizable window in the rear wall of the greenhouse. The 2 or 4 generous roof vents are installed offset so when open, they will capture a breeze regardless from which direction it blows. The solar venting mechanicals are distinctive in that the cylinders are filled with a synthetic beeswax which melts and expands when warmed causing the venting cylinder to expand. This action causes the vent covers to open in direct proportion to the inside temperature. The temperature at which the vents operate can be loosely set by the customer to customize the application. This is a great time and worry saver especially in the spring and fall when the daytime temperatures vary greatly from the morning and evening temperatures. You don’t have to be home to open and close the vents and the greenhouse won’t overheat or overcool.
Our greenhouses come complete and can be installed directly on the ground without a costly cement foundation or treated wood frame. The location just needs to be somewhat level and cleared. The Simply Solar Greenhouse has a stabilizing fiberglass footing around the interior base. When our technicians bring a greenhouse to you, they prepare the location by excavating a trench about 8-10 inches wide and 2-3 inches deep. The trench is leveled and the greenhouse footing is put in it and the soil is put back over the footing. It is a simple enough operation that if you have to move the greenhouse, it can be done relatively easily. It can be moved to a new location on your property or a new property all together. Without a permanent foundation, it is often considered a temporary building and may not require a zoning permit. You should check with your local zoning department to make sure. The size often meets Home Owner Association guidelines as well. With a subterranean installation as a foundation, you give added strength to the walls. The open floor also provides growing space, evaporative cooling and heating conditions and a humidity source. A layer of organic mulch in the greenhouse will act as a cold barrier, increase humidity and will work as a weed barrier. Stepping stones can run down the center. Additionally, the buried footing is a deterrent to burrowing rodents but acts to maintain a seal between the ground and greenhouse to eliminate any opportunity for the wind to gain lifting power. See diagram above.
Our engineers have thought of everything. The one-piece molded shell is made from durable fiberglass which has a smooth exterior that is weather resistant. Summer dust washes off in the rain and winter snow and ice slide off preventing excessive weight build-up.
The unique characteristic of the Gothic arch shape makes the greenhouse very stable in high winds. The ribbed, one-piece construction is strong and leaves no joints or seams to catch the wind. Sideways movement is prevented by insetting the greenhouse base perimeter 2-3 inches below the ground surface which will foil winds up and over the greenhouse. The arch shape converts much of the lateral wind energy downward on the windward side and reduces the vacuum on the leeward side. See diagram above.
The Prism Effect is another advantage of our Gothic arch design. This Prism Effect is created by our manufacturing process, our special resin formula and the arch design. In producing a greenhouse, millions of chopped greenhouse quality fiberglass fibers are bonded together with the special hot resin mix. The layers are rolled and pressed together making a uniform thickness. As sunlight enters the greenhouse, it is reflected and refracted by the chopped fiberglass fibers all around the greenhouse space. This means that on cloudy days, it is actually brighter inside than outside. It also means that there are no shadows inside the greenhouse since the light is bounced into every nook and cranny. And, there is no framing or foundation obstacles to cause dark spots. Because there are no shadows, you can grow on multiple levels within the greenhouse. You can plant directly in the ground soil or raised beds, in containers on the ground, on benches, shelves, lattice, and even hanging overhead from optional misting system plumbing or optional hanging plant rails. Our resin formula is formulated to contain a special UV blocking agent to protect your plants from harmful UV rays. UV is bad for people and bad for plants and can burn them, causing them to shut down and fail. See diagram above.
“Winter” means a little something different for everyone. And the only fair answer to this question, although vague, is that it depends on the year and where exactly you live. Our greenhouses, while great for absorbing heat from the sun and releasing it back into the greenhouse space after dark, most likely will require an auxiliary heat source if you plan to grow in it during the entire year. You can minimize the amount of heating that has to be done by selecting the proper plant varieties for your area, investigate the minimum temperature that the plants need for growth, and perhaps minimize the amount of space that you need to heat by using heated seed mats, row covers and/or plant cloches. Contact us with specific questions for your location and we will be able to give you a more specific answer.
Simply Solar Greenhouses (Products)
Hobby Model
(Shown with Optional Misting System Spigot)
Our Hobby Model is our smallest one-piece greenhouse. It is built to the same quality standards as our larger models. It is perfect for those gardeners who need more space than provided on the kitchen counter or porch to start vegetables or annual flowers in the spring or those who want to protect specialty plants from harmful weather conditions or pests. It measures 7 feet 3 inches tall in the center, 6 feet 8 inches wide at the base, and is 7 feet 9 inches long. These dimensions often fall within the guidelines of Homeowner Associations, but we recommend that you check with your specific governing unit. It has 2 roof vents that open in opposite directions when the preset interior temperature is reached. This off-set design of the vents allows the vent hood to catch a breeze regardless of the direction from which it is blowing. No electricity is required to operate the solar operated cylinders. The cylinders are filled with a synthetic bees-wax type material that expands when it is warmed from the interior heat of the greenhouse. This maximizes air flow. The door (25- 3/4″ by 66″) contains a window (19″ wide by 24″ long) that can be left open for summer ventilation and has a rear window (25″ wide by 31- 1/2 long) that swings to the side as well. The window and vent configuration allow for the best in natural ventilation. Double or single side Misting Systems or Hanging Rails can be installed before delivery. See our accessories page for more information.
Models are kept in stock and can be shipped from either our Missouri or Michigan locations.

Hobby Model
Double Sided Misting System: $190
Our double-sided misting system features PVC pipe with 3 misting heads on each side which emit a fine mist that appears almost like a fog with no visible water droplets. Each side has a cut-off valve, so each side can be operated independent of the other. It is plumbed over the door to connect the two sides. There is an exterior spigot on the right side of the door. A common household hose (with one end reversed) can be easily connected to this spigot and used to irrigate the interior of the house. If you choose to add your own timer, most find that connecting it between the spigot and the hose is optimal placement. Irrigation can be used, not only for watering purposes, but also to help moderate the interior temperature. Because well water is mostly the same temperature, the misters can be used on a cool morning to help heat the greenhouse, or on a hot afternoon to help cool the interior.
Double Sided Hanging Rod $ 50
Hanging Rails help you to make the most out of the interior cubic space available for growing. Because light is reflected and refracted by the fiberglass fragments embedded in the resin, all interior space is potential growing area. By adding the Hanging Rails, you can utilize the overhead space for hanging baskets and/or for securing support lines for climbing vegetables.
Potting Tray and Bench
Potting Tray Only: $75
Single Potting Tray and Frame: $125
This potting bench is from the same high-quality fiber glass used in our greenhouses. The single unit measures approximately 30 inches high x 24 inches wide x 40 inches long. The tray is approximately 7” deep. The stand is made from 1-inch PVC pipe. The bench comes unassembled and requires simple assembly. The use of PVC adhesive is optional and unnecessary unless you want to make the joints permanent. It is heavy enough when filled that it really doesn’t need the adhesive.
NOTE: They must be assembled inside the greenhouse as they won’t fit through the door when fully assembled.
RAISED BEDS
Small 7.5’ long x 20” wide x 2’ tall $139
Large 8’ long x 2’ wide x 2’ tall $159
We are happy to show our newest product line. These raised beds were custom engineered for our greenhouses and come in 2 convenient sizes. The ergonomic design is a full 2 feet high which means no bending over to seed, weed or harvest. It is a great solution for growing over poor or rocky soil. Takes only seconds to install, and can be delivered right to your door. Made with 20-year rated heavy landscape fabric and galvanized steel mesh frame.

The kit contains 10 plastic clamps, 20 nylon nuts and bolts, and 6 each of the 2-piece misting nozzles. It also contains 2 PVC end caps, 1 PVC elbow, 1 PVC coupling, 1 PVC street elbow threaded, a bulkhead union and a spigot. You would need to provide your own PVC pipe. Kit is great for a retro-fit application.
Hanging Rail Kit $12
Our kits are designed for the DIY-er who needs the parts to put together his/her own Hanging Rail. The kit contains 10 plastic clamps and 20 nylon nuts and bolts and, and 4 end clamps. You would need to provide your own PVC pipe. These parts will complete a both sides in a Hobby Model. Kit is great for a retro-fit application.
Replacement Vent Lifters and Cylinders
Single Vent Opener with Cylinder $ 100
Single Cylinder Only $ 50
We special order our cylinders and openers from Great Britain. Why re-engineer something that has worked for them for hundreds of years?
The cylinder is filled with a synthetic beeswax material that expands when it gets warm.
As the interior of the greenhouse warms up, the cylinder expands and gently opens the vent to increase ventilation. When the temperatures cool, the cylinder will contract and gently lower the vent. There is a manual adjustment on the end of the cylinder that allows you to roughly set the temperature at which you want the vent to begin to open. You can purchase the cylinder or opener separately or together.
Cold Frame $95
Our cold frame is made using the same fiberglass formula we use for our greenhouses. This formula blocks about 90% of harmful UV sunlight. The raised area of the Row Cover measures 24” x 48” with a 2” (approximately)flange around the bottom perimeter. They are14” tall at the center peak. They are light weight enough to lift if you want to vent them but heavy enough to withstand most winds. The exterior flange can be weighted down with soil or other material if wind is an issue. Now featuring a manual vent for each end. An updated picture is forthcoming.

What is used to make Simply Solar Greenhouse?
The Simply Solar Greenhouse is a one-piece molded fiberglass product. We use the finest quality fiberglass and exclusive resins formulated especially for our greenhouses. This special composite formulation blocks most UV rays. As light enters the greenhouse, it is reflected and refracted off the interior walls, which creates a shadow-free environment with multiple uses.
What makes your design superior to others?
The ribbed, one-piece construction is easy to install and inexpensive to maintain. The Gothic arch shape ensures stability even in high winds and prevents ice and snow build-up for those in northern climes. The stabilizing base flange anchors the inner dimensions and eliminates the need for a costly foundation. You can plant right in the ground! The solar-operating venting system (no electricity required) automatically adjusts to pre-set levels and allow for the best in natural ventilation.
Will the Simply Solar Greenhouse work where I live?
We do have gardeners with our greenhouses growing year round in all 48 continental states plus Alaska and Canada. But depending on your location and time of year, auxiliary heating or cooling may be necessary.
What do I need to do get ready for a greenhouse?
Not much other than have the location generally prepared. The area should be fairly level and free of tree roots, rocks and other obstacles. We suggest you dig a shallow trench about 2 inches deep and 6-8 inches wide for the size of the parameter of the greenhouse you are purchasing. Once the greenhouse arrives, it can be placed in the trench and secured to the ground. We suggest that you take the material from the trench and pack it along the outside of the greenhouse, essentially “burying” it deep enough to keep the wind from getting inside from the bottom edge. This is part of the engineering to make it more stable in windy conditions. If you plan on attaching it to an existing cement slab or something other than the ground, please contact us for suggestion on how best to secure it. The interior floor can be finished with your pea gravel, wood chips, or steppingstones or bricks.
How do most people use your greenhouses for?
There are a variety of uses for our greenhouses. You can lengthen your growing season by getting a jump start with seedlings in the late winter or extending your harvest into fall months. (We love our own strawberries in November!) You can enjoy continual harvests from successive plantings and enhance your cooking with a variety of fresh herbs. You can ensure that your family is eating healthy, by selecting the best organic, heirloom or unusual varieties of plants to grow. Our greenhouses work well in an educational setting for schools and other non-profits.
Your greenhouses are a contained solar environment, so are there any non-gardening uses?
Our greenhouses have been used as chicken coops and to incubate baby animals. More and more people are using them for specific growing applications like hydroponics or aquaponics. If you don’t want to use your greenhouse year-round, it makes a great storage space for summer gardening supplies, patio furniture, hoses, etc.
Do I have to heat my greenhouse during the winter?
Winter means a little something different for everyone. You can expect to have to add an auxiliary heat source if you want to grow year round. The greenhouse interior will collect heat during the day and radiate it back during the night. In the coldest hours of the night, when the reserve solar heat is gone, your auxiliary heat source will have to turn on. The temperature you want to maintain inside and the weather outside will all affect the how much heating is needed. Please contact us for specific information regarding heating choices for your area.
If money is a limiting factor for you, then consider these questions before planning your winter garden:
- Is what you are planning on growing really worth the added expense of heating the greenhouse?
- Will you actually go out to your greenhouse to care for and harvest what it is you have been growing?
- What temperature will you need to maintain for the plants you will be growing?
- What heat source are you planning on using: propane, kerosene, wood, pellets, electricity, or something else like solar or a feed from your wood burning furnace?
Many plants like radishes, leaf lettuces, beets and strawberries are considered cool growing plants and only need temperatures in the low 40’s at night. I can start these in the very early spring by maintaining the temperature with a low wattage electric heater with a thermostat set at 40 degrees. It comes on when the nighttime temperatures fall in the early morning hours. I have 35 gallon plastic barrels in each corner painted black and filled with water. The water inside is heated by the sun during the day and gets transmitted back into the greenhouse during the night. The sunlight also heats my flooring material of dark wood chips and bricks throughout the day which is also transmitted back into the greenhouse space during the night. Temperatures can be maintained in the fall in the same manner so I can prolong my harvests of tomatoes, strawberries and other fruits.
Strawberry and raspberry plants as well as some perennial flowers over-winter well in my unheated greenhouse during the coldest months of December, January, and February. I also store my garden hoses, some yard art and garden tools. Winter, and the pause in growing, gives me a chance to relax from gardening chores and garden from my arm chair where I pour through seed catalogues and dream of bigger and better gardens. I have canned and frozen my harvest so we make it through the winter without needing to heat our greenhouse..
For me, the cost of using my greenhouse year around doesn’t make economic sense in my north-central Michigan home. However, if you live in a more southern locale then by all means plan on using it year around.
What material should I use for the flooring inside my new greenhouse?
Because our greenhouses do not require a permanent foundation, the interior flooring offers many opportunities to customize the area to suit your gardening habits. The interior is open and allows you to grow directly in the soil. If you have poor soil, then adding a raised bed with amended soil is an option. You can also use containers, shelving and benches for growing space.
I recommend using a wood mulch for the floor of your greenhouse because it will allow for drainage, reducing the formation of puddles or overly wet work areas. Wood mulch will also hold moisture for increased humidity inside the greenhouse. When the moisture evaporates, it will help cool the interior much like the process of sweating in humans. Rubber mulch, stones, pebbles, cement and paving stones do not have the same properties as a wood mulch and will not hold moisture. These materials will also retain cold temperatures during the winter and hot temperatures during the summer. For a weed barrier, consider putting 10-15 layers of newspaper under the mulch before spreading it out, it will still perk the water but by eliminating any sunlight getting through to the soil, weeds will not sprout.
A center walkway of bricks or paving blocks will keep the gardener up off the moist chips, help keep the interior a little neater and will look professional and “finished”.
I've looked at a lot of greenhouse catalogs and there are pages and pages of accessories. What do I have to buy to get my Simply Solar going?
Maybe nothing. For your mulch you can use sawdust, bark mulch, bark chips or wood chips. Whatever is free or cheap in your area is always a good starting point. The rest can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. A packet of seeds and a watering can will get you growing. You probably have an electric heater that you can use already. Don’t spend a lot of money on a heater as they will all rust out in a greenhouse environment.
Where should I locate my Simply Solar Greenhouse on my property?
While your Simply Solar Greenhouse is happy in any location and exposure, we recommend, if possible, that the long side (arched side) face the prevailing winds in your area. It is fine to place your greenhouse where it can be shaded from the summer sun like under a deciduous tree. In the spring, when you want the greenhouse to heat up, the leaves have not yet come out to block the warmth of the sun. In the summer, when outside temperatures are high, the shade from the leaves helps keep the interior cooler. The fiber optic effect of the Simply Solar Greenhouse will capture light under almost any condition. Care should be taken, however, not to place your Simply Solar Greenhouse under a diseased tree that may lose a large limb.
What does it cost for shipping?
We have greenhouses in most states. Delivery can be made from either our southeastern Missouri or central Michigan locations. We will work with you to make a timely and cost-effective delivery to you. We have experienced success in coordinating delivery of our small Hobby Model via a common motor freight carrier that will deliver directly to a residential address and off-load the greenhouse using a lift-gate. This option reduces the freight costs and makes the Hobby Model even more affordable. Options for the delivery of our other sizes are being finalized and should be forthcoming. The installation process is straightforward and possible for the homeowner to do it personally. Real-time installation help is available by calling (866) 478-4050. Please call for more information.
Why would I want a misting system?
A misting system can be used for several functions. The most obvious function is to water your plants on the interior. In the factory, we can install the misting system to work on one, or both sides of the greenhouse. It can be plumbed to the outside (usually on the right side of the door). It only takes a small amount of water pressure to get full misting from the nozzles. A timer can be added to the system between the spigot and the hose to making watering automatic. And, who doesn’t like that on a busy day, or when you know you will be away from home for a day or two. A second use of the misting system can be in thermo-regulation of the greenhouse. If the morning seems a little to cool inside, start the misters for a few minutes to let the warmer water take the chill away. Likewise, on a real hot afternoon, use the misters to cool off the interior and help support the plants in distress due to the heat. Either way, it can be beneficial to have a quick remedy should you need it.
How do I maintain the finish on my Greenhouse?
Simply Solar Greenhouses last a very long time! We meet people at shows that tell us their grandparents have had one for 25 years, and they are still using it or have passed in down to others in the family. With that kind of longevity, you can expect that the exterior will need some TLC along the way. At any age, we do not recommend using a power washer. The pressure is just too high and will damage the resin and cause fiberglass “hairs” to come loose. The best thing to clean it with is something with soft bristles and a cleaner like “Dawn” dishwashing liquid or even “Awesome”, a concentrated cleaner found in many discount stores. Mix the cleaner with washer and proceed to wash the exterior. Once dried, use an automobile or boat wax to seal it. If the greenhouse has some holes, those can be patched with commercial fiberglass repair kits that are available at most auto parts stores or Walmart. Don’t forget the interior of the greenhouse as well! The interior is not as smooth and does tend to attract dust as well as mold or mildew due to the humid environment. You can use the power sprayer on a garden hose to rinse off the inside but feel free to use a stiffer brush on those really hard areas to clean. A mixture of about 8-1 bleach and water should work on that mold or mildew. Lastly, if you feel the entire greenhouse needs to be resealed on the exterior, we recommend a product from Sherwin Williams called Sher-clear. It is a single component sealer that contains UV ray inhibitors and is somewhat elastic to allow for some expansion and contraction of the greenhouse. It can be brushed or rolled on. The greenhouse should be thoroughly cleaned of dirt because anything left on the greenhouse will be permanently sealed inside the sealer. Coverage is about 300 square feet per gallon. It does have a shelf life so most Sherwin Williams dealers don’t carry it in stock but all can order it for you. If you are having problems getting it, please call me at (866) 478-4050 and I can try to help you find a dealer.
Gardener Model
Our Gardener Model is our most popular model and s suitable for those gardeners who need more inside space. It is a perfect space to start vegetable seedlings or annual flowers in the spring. It can be used to protect plants from pests or harmful weather conditions like hail, excessive wind, or too much or too little rain. The spacious size allows room for a potting bench for working at a comfortable height or garden bench for rest and relaxation. It measures 8 feet 3 inches tall in the center, 8 feet wide at the base and is 14 feet 11 1/2 inches long. The front door is 25″ wide by 74″ high and has a drop-down window that measures 19-3/4″ wide by 28″ long. This Gardener Model also has a rear window that swings to the side that measures 25- 1/4″ wide by 35- 3/4” long. It has 2 solar vents that operate when the preset interior temperature is reached. This greenhouse has over 2 ½ times the cubic space of the compact Hobby Model. Take advantage of extra ceiling height by adding an optional hanging rod the entire length of the Greenhouse. Utilize the overhead space for hanging baskets of strawberries, herbs and even tomatoes. Double or single side Misting Systems or Hanging Rails can be installed before delivery. See our accessories page for more information.
Models are kept in stock at both the Missouri and Michigan locations and can be delivered or shipped from either location. Customer pick up is also available.

Delivery can be made from either our southeastern Missouri or Michigan locations. We will work with you to make a timely and cost effective delivery to you. Real-time installation help is available by calling (989) 544-2443.
Homesteader Model
Our Homesteader Model is not available at this time. If you are interested in one this size, please call us and we can give you the current forecast for production. Our Homesteader Model boasts almost 2000 cubic feet of space and is large enough for those interested in self-sufficiency or those with specialty interests like hydroponics or aquaponics. Our largest model, The Homesteader measures 8 feet 3 inches tall in the center, 8 feet wide at the base and a generous 28 1/2 feet long. The front door is 25″ wide by 74″ long and has a drop-down window that measures 19-3/4″ wide by 28″ long. This Homesteader Model also has a rear window that swings to the side that measures 25- 1/4″ wide by 35- 3/4” long. This model has 4 solar vents that operate when the preset interior temperature is reached.
The large interior space has an open floor plan and can be set up by the customer to accommodate plenty of shelves, benches or hanging containers for starting seeds or growing plants. The space is large enough to section off for many uses like a potting and growing area, composting or fertilizing equipment, live animal husbandry, or heat-sink devices.
This greenhouse is made to order and can have a door on both ends if desired. Double or single side Misting Systems and/or Hanging Rails can be installed before delivery. A 25% deposit is required when the order is placed. See our accessories page for more information. This unit is delivered by our trained technicians and comes out of our southern Missouri plant. While the installation process is the same as for our other sizes, it is a little more problematic due to the size and bulkiness of the greenhouse. Our technicians request the assistance of at least two helpers on site when installing this model.
Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.

Homesteader Model
8’ wide x 8’ tall x 28.5’ deep
Double Sided Misting System: $425
Our double-sided misting system features PVC pipe with 7 misting heads on each side that emits a fine mist that appears almost like a fog with no visible water droplets. Irrigation can be used, not only for watering purposes, it can be used to help moderate the interior temperature. Because well water is mostly the same temperature, the misters can be used on a cool morning to help heat the greenhouse, or on a hot afternoon to help cool the interior.
Potting Tray and Bench
Potting Tray Only: $75
Single Potting Tray and Frame: $100
This potting bench is from the same high-quality fiberglass as our greenhouse themselves. The single unit measures approximately 30 inches high x 24 inches wide x 40 inches long. The tray is approximately 7” deep. The stand is made from 1-inch PVC pipe. The bench comes unassembled and required simple assembly. The use of PVC adhesive is optional and unnecessary unless you want to make the joints permanent. It is heavy enough when filled that it really doesn’t need the adhesive.
NOTE: They must be assembled inside the greenhouse as they won’t fit through the door when fully assembled.
Mister Kit – $225.00
Our kits are designed for the DIY-er who needs the parts to put together his/her own customized mister system for their 8′ x 8′ x 28.5′ Homesteader Model. The kit contains 44 plastic clamps, 88 nylon nuts and bolts, 28 each of the 2-piece misting nozzles, 2 PVC end caps, 1 PVC elbow, 4 PVC couplings, 2 ball valves, 1 PVC street elbow threaded, 1 bulkhead union and 1 spigot. You would need to provide your own PVC pipe. Kit is great for a retro-fit application.
Double Sided Hanging Rod $95
Hanging Rails help you to make the most out of the interior cubic space available for growing. Because light is reflected and refracted by the fiberglass fragments embedded in the resin, all interior space is potential growing area. By adding the Hanging Rails, you can utilize the overhead space for hanging baskets and/or for securing support lines for climbing vegetables.
Hanging Rail Kit $35
This is our Gardener Size kit Shown.
Quantity included is as listed below.

Replacement Vent Lifters and Cylinders
Single Vent Opener with Cylinder $ 100
Single Cylinder Only $ 50
We special order our cylinders and openers from Great Brittan. Why re-engineer something has worked for them for hundred of years? The cylinder is filled with a synthetic beeswax material that expands when it gets warm.
As the interior of the greenhouse warms up, the cylinder expands and gently opens the vent to increase ventilation. When the temperatures cool, the cylinder will contract and gently lower the vent. There is a manual adjustment on the end of the cylinder that allows you to roughly set the temperature at which you want the vent to begin to open. You can purchase the cylinder or opener separately or together.
Made with 20-year rated heavy landscape fabric and galvanized steel-mesh frame.
Cold Frame $95
Our cold frame is made using the same fiberglass formula we use for our greenhouses. This formula blocks about 90% of harmful UV sunlight. The raised area of the Row Cover measures 24” x 48” with a 2” (approximately) flange around the bottom perimeter. They are 14” tall at the center peak. They are light weight enough to lift if you want to vent them but heavy enough to withstand most winds. The exterior flange can be weighted down with soil or other material if wind is an issue. Now features a manual vent on each end. An updated photo is forthcoming.
